Spiritual Care Provider

Overview

Exhausted by the confines of religion, I went on a quest.

My questions weren’t welcome, but even so, there they were, impressing themselves upon my person.

I remember feeling the rumblings of hunger. The old confines of belief no longer seemed to fit. I had a desire to have conversations around meaningful realities of spirit and being. There had always been a contemplative, mystical component in my being.

The deconstruction of faith traditions that are familiar to us, be it having grown up in a household that ascribed to one or encountering one in the flow of life, is hard work.

I felt like a pinball in an arcade machine, bouncing up against bumpers that would only bounce me back into more questions.

Being able to share space with another human being on their spiritual path and journey together is a privilege. Sacred listening holds the space between. All things belong in that space, whether it is the parsing through of belief systems, spiritual formation practices, or allowing divine presence into the moments of everyday life and living. A spiritual director is a companion. One who listens, asks questions back, holds the space for questions.

Look for the answer inside your question.
